Mandarmani is famous for its long, motorable beach, though driving on it is now restricted to protect the ecosystem. It's a hub for water sports like jet skiing and banana boat rides. Just a short drive away lies Tajpur, a quieter hideaway known for its dense tamarisk and casuarina groves and the countless red crabs that create a moving red carpet on the sand. Tajpur's crescent-shaped beach is perfect for those seeking solitude and picturesque sunrises.
Bakkhali: The Unspoiled Southern Escape
For those willing to venture a bit further south, Bakkhali offers a unique and rustic coastal experience. The journey is around 125-130 km and takes four to five hours, but it includes an adventurous ferry crossing at Hatania-Doania creek in Namkhana, where your car is transported on a vessel. This is a hard, grey sand beach that stretches 7 km to the Fraserganj fishing harbour. The area is less commercialised, ideal for cycling, long walks, and bird watching.
