Shah Rukh Khan: The Mentor Assassin
Forget the romantic hero; reports indicate Shah Rukh Khan is diving deep into a grey-shaded character. He is allegedly playing the titular 'King,' a formidable and highly skilled assassin or a don-like figure. Initial rumours suggested his role might
be an extended cameo, but it has since been clarified that he will be in a full-fledged lead role. This character is not expected to be Suhana's on-screen father. Instead, he takes on the role of a mentor, guiding his young protégé through a dangerous world. The plot is rumoured to be inspired by the French classic 'Léon: The Professional,' where an assassin unwillingly becomes the protector of a young girl.
Suhana Khan: The Protégé
Marking her much-anticipated theatrical debut after her appearance in 'The Archies,' Suhana Khan is reportedly at the very heart of the film's story. She is said to portray a young woman who finds herself in a life-altering situation, possibly after losing her family, and is taken under the wing of SRK's character. While not playing his biological daughter in the film, her character's dynamic with her mentor is the central emotional core. Suhana herself hinted at the father-daughter-like bond in a social media post, sharing mugs labelled 'King' and 'King's Princess'. Her role will reportedly involve intense, high-octane action sequences, for which she is undergoing rigorous training.
Abhishek Bachchan: The Primary Antagonist
A major casting coup for the film is the inclusion of Abhishek Bachchan as the primary villain. This was memorably confirmed by his father, Amitabh Bachchan, on social media. Reports suggest that Abhishek will be presented in a completely negative role, a nasty arch-villain who will have a deep-seated hatred for SRK's character. Their face-off is being planned as a major highlight of the film, with some sources claiming the two stars may even have a shirtless climax confrontation. Shah Rukh Khan reportedly personally requested Abhishek to take on the role, which was expanded from a guest appearance to a full-fledged part after seeing his performance.
A Sprawling Ensemble Cast
Beyond the central trio, 'King' is assembling one of the most star-studded casts in recent memory. Actor Saurabh Shukla even joked that the film features "70 per cent of the film industry." The list of reported actors is a who's who of Bollywood, including Deepika Padukone and Rani Mukerji. Rani is rumoured to be playing Suhana's mother in a crucial cameo role. The cast also reportedly includes industry veterans like Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, and Arshad Warsi, alongside acclaimed actors such as Jaideep Ahlawat and Saurabh Shukla. With a plot that may span two different timelines, some actors could be playing antagonists in different phases of the story. However, some of these reports are conflicting, as actor Raghav Juyal has denied rumours that he is playing a main villain.
The Creative Minds: Sujoy Ghosh and Siddharth Anand
The project is a major collaboration behind the scenes. Initially, reports suggested that 'Kahaani' director Sujoy Ghosh would helm the film. However, more recent updates clarify that while Ghosh has co-written the story, the directorial duties have been taken over by Siddharth Anand, who previously directed SRK in the blockbuster 'Pathaan'. This pairing suggests a film that will blend Ghosh's penchant for tight, thrilling narratives with Anand's flair for large-scale, stylish action sequences. The combination of these two creative forces, along with a massive budget, points towards a slick, high-octane action spectacle with a strong emotional core.
