for the ball to remain visible under powerful stadium lights for 80 overs. This durable, glossy surface keeps the ball harder and shinier for much longer than a red ball. While a red ball's shine might last for about an hour, the pink ball can retain its sheen for an entire session, giving fast bowlers a prolonged period to generate conventional swing. The seam is also different; it's stitched with black thread for better visibility against the pink leather, which can help bowlers with their grip and seam presentation.

This has a direct consequence on the game. A greener pitch offers more assistance to seam bowlers, as the pronounced seam of the ball can grip the grassy surface and deviate more upon bouncing. This grass, combined with the hardness of the new pink ball, creates conditions that are highly favourable for the bowling side, particularly in the opening sessions of an innings, whether during the day or at night.
