A Monsoon Spectacle: Udyan Utsav-II
The Rashtrapati Bhavan has opened the gates to Amrit Udyan for its special monsoon season, officially known as the Summer Annuals edition. This limited-time window, running from August 16 to September 15, 2026, allows the public to experience the 15-acre
gardens in their full monsoon glory. Unlike the famous spring bloom, the monsoon edition highlights a variety of indigenous and native flowering plants that thrive in the rainy season. Visitors can expect to see vibrant displays of Balsam, Aparajita, and other seasonal flowers, offering a different but equally breathtaking view of this historic space. The gardens, which carry nearly a century of history and were renamed from Mughal Gardens in 2023, provide a lush, green escape in the heart of the city.
Booking Your Visit: Timings and Tickets
Entry to Amrit Udyan is entirely free, but planning ahead is mandatory as there are no on-the-spot bookings. All visitors must reserve their time slots in advance through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. Bookings for any given day close at 10 AM on the preceding day, so it’s essential to plan at least a day ahead. The gardens are open to the public from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry permitted at 5:00 PM. To ensure the grounds remain in pristine condition, the Udyan is closed every Monday for maintenance. Visitors enter and exit through Gate No. 35, located near North Avenue Road.
Delhi's Monsoon Weather and What to Wear
August and September in Delhi are characterized by post-monsoon weather, which typically means high humidity with intermittent rain showers. While heavy downpours are possible, you're just as likely to experience a warm, overcast day. Given the extensive walking required to explore the gardens, comfort is key. Opt for light, breathable fabrics to stay cool in the humidity. Most importantly, wear comfortable walking shoes that you don't mind getting a little wet or muddy. The pathways are well-maintained, but some areas can become damp. Carrying a small umbrella is highly recommended; it will shield you from both sudden showers and the sun if it decides to make an appearance.
The Essential Checklist: What to Bring
To ensure a smooth entry and comfortable visit, it’s crucial to know what you can and cannot bring. You must carry a digital or printed copy of your booking pass and a government-issued photo ID for verification at the gate. Mobile phones, wallets, purses, and umbrellas are allowed inside. If you are visiting with an infant, you may also carry a small handbag with a water or milk bottle. However, items like cameras, video recorders, backpacks, and outside food and drink are strictly prohibited. For refreshments, a food court is available within the premises where you can purchase snacks and beverages. Cloakroom facilities are also available to store any restricted items.
Navigating the Gardens and Getting There
The monsoon route through Amrit Udyan showcases several key areas, including the stunning Central Lawn, the Bonsai Garden, and the Circular Garden. This season places a special focus on native flora, so be sure to look for unique Indian flowers. To make the journey convenient, a free shuttle bus service is available from Gate No. 4 of the Central Secretariat Metro Station, which operates every 30 minutes from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. This shuttle takes you directly to the entry at Gate No. 35. For those arriving by car, parking is available, but taking public transport is often easier. Inside, facilities such as drinking water, restrooms, and first-aid stations are located along the visitor route.
