Dubai, a city synonymous with ambition and luxury, is adding another glittering attraction to its portfolio. The Dubai Gold District is set to open the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-carat gold, a project blending tradition with spectacle.
A Path Paved with Gold
Imagine strolling down a path that shimmers with the unmistakable glow of pure gold. That is the experience Dubai plans to offer with its new Gold Walkway. According to officials, this groundbreaking project in the Deira district will feature a walkway made of 24-carat gold, billed as the first and longest of its kind in the world. The announcement was made by Rashid Al Harmoudi, Senior Director of the Commercial Sector at the Dubai Gold District, who confirmed the ambitious project is slated to open before the end of 2026, possibly within the next two months. While specific details like the exact length, cost, and amount of gold to be used remain under wraps, the intent is clear: to create a unique and unforgettable attraction for both residents and international tourists.
The Heart of the Gold Trade
The walkway is a showpiece for the recently launched Dubai Gold District, a sprawling, purpose-built hub designed to cement the city's status as a global leader in the gold and jewellery trade. Officially launched in January 2026, the district is a modern evolution of Dubai's historic Gold Souk. It consolidates every facet of the industry—from retail shops and wholesale offices to bullion trading and investment services—into a single, integrated ecosystem. The district already hosts over 1,000 retailers selling not just gold and jewellery but also perfumes, cosmetics, and other lifestyle products, attracting a diverse international clientele. The project is part of the wider Deira Enrichment Project by developer Ithra Dubai, which aims to revitalise the city's original commercial heart while preserving its cultural heritage.
Boosting Business and Tourism
The Gold Walkway is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a strategic move to drive economic activity. The project is designed to draw significant foot traffic, benefiting the hundreds of retailers in the district and reinforcing Dubai's reputation as a premier shopping destination. Since the start of 2026, the Dubai Gold District has already seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new retail shops. The addition of the walkway is expected to accelerate this growth. Officials anticipate the number of companies moving to the district will grow by another 10% to 20% in the coming year. This development is paired with plans for a major new exhibition centre intended to be the largest for the gold and jewellery trade in the Middle East, further solidifying the district's commercial importance.
A Modern Souk Experience
While the Gold Walkway provides the 'wow' factor, the surrounding Gold Souk Extension has been designed with practicality in mind. The project aims to enhance the traditional market experience with modern infrastructure. This includes shaded walkways, new bridges, smart signage, and integrated public transport solutions to improve accessibility and comfort for shoppers and traders. The development also addresses a key challenge of the old souk by adding significant parking capacity, with over 1,700 spaces in the extension alone. The area includes state-of-the-art facilities, workshops, banks, and food and beverage outlets, creating a comprehensive environment that supports both business operations and a vibrant visitor experience, blending the charm of old Dubai with the efficiency of a modern commercial hub.
