The conversation around King begins with its staggering budget. According to multiple industry reports, the production cost is estimated to be around ₹350 crore to ₹450 crore. This figure, which excludes marketing costs and Shah Rukh Khan's own fee, makes
it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced. A significant portion of this massive budget is reportedly allocated specifically to its action sequences, signaling a clear intention to deliver a world-class visual spectacle. The makers are aiming for a global feel, executing Hollywood-level concepts on a fraction of the budget, with a focus on creating a rich, theatrical experience.
Hollywood-Level Stunt Direction
To execute this ambitious vision, producer-mentor Siddharth Anand and director Sujoy Ghosh have reportedly brought in international stunt coordinators. Reports indicate the film will feature six distinct, large-scale action set pieces. These are not just VFX-heavy sequences; the emphasis is on raw, real, and practical stunts filmed at international locations, including Europe. One widely reported sequence, filmed over ten days in Europe, is said to have cost a jaw-dropping ₹50 crore alone—translating to ₹5 crore per day. Shah Rukh Khan himself is reportedly taking a hands-on approach, supervising and helping plan the action design to ensure its grandeur.
A New Kind of Action Hero
The action in King is being designed to be different from Khan's recent outings. While Pathaan and Jawan were known for their stylized, larger-than-life sequences, King is rumoured to feature a grittier, more raw form of combat. Insiders describe the action as sleek, with a focus on chase sequences and intense hand-to-hand combat. The story, reportedly inspired by the French classic 'Léon: The Professional', centres on an aged assassin, hinting at a darker, more complex character for SRK. One of the earliest sequences filmed involved Khan taking on nearly 200 stunt performers in a chaotic jail setting, designed to present him in a more rugged avatar.
Suhana Khan's Intense Debut
A major highlight of the film is the on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan, in her theatrical debut. Breaking the mould of a typical launch, Suhana is stepping directly into a demanding action role. To prepare, she has been undergoing rigorous physical training for months with international experts. Close friend and filmmaker Farah Khan revealed that Shah Rukh has been personally training and mentoring Suhana on set, turning it into a full-fledged training ground to prepare her for the physically demanding sequences. This intense preparation is for a role that will see her performing her own stunts, from chase sequences to intense combat scenes.
Global Locations and Grand Set Pieces
The scale of King is also reflected in its diverse and ambitious shooting locations. Principal photography has taken the cast and crew across the globe, from Mumbai to extensive schedules in European cities like Warsaw and Gdańsk in Poland. One recently completed schedule in Poland involved a massive chase with luxury cars, a motorboat, and fights at a port, with an emphasis on practical effects over CGI. While some location plans have been adjusted, such as shifting a desert sequence from Dubai to a purpose-built set in Mumbai, the commitment to creating vast, immersive environments remains. The film's sprawling ensemble cast and its Christmas 2026 release date further underscore its status as a major cinematic event.
