Introducing the Amrit Bharat Express
Indian Railways has launched a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express, regularising a special service to create a permanent new link between Delhi and Gorakhpur. This service, numbered 15095/15096, is specifically designed as an affordable, long-distance travel
option for passengers, particularly those in the lower and lower-middle income brackets. Unlike the premium, fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat focuses on providing an upgraded non-AC travel experience, positioning it as a 'common person's train' with modern amenities. The service, which begins its regular run from Gorakhpur on August 27, 2026, aims to improve connectivity for several towns in Uttar Pradesh with the national capital.
What Makes It Family-Friendly?
The Amrit Bharat Express is built with family comfort in mind. The train features 22 coaches, comprising sleeper and general class accommodation. A key highlight is the 'push-pull' technology, with a locomotive at each end, which allows for faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time and providing a smoother, jerk-free ride. For families, this means a more comfortable journey. Inside, coaches are equipped with improved seat and berth designs, better lighting, and foldable snack tables. Each passenger has access to mobile charging sockets, including USB ports. The train also boasts fully sealed gangways for easy movement between coaches, CCTV surveillance for security, and modern bio-toilets.
Schedule and Journey Time
The new weekly service significantly enhances travel planning. Train No. 15095 will depart from Gorakhpur Junction every Thursday at 10:45 PM, arriving at Delhi Junction at 12:50 PM the next day. The return journey, Train No. 15096, will depart from Delhi every Friday at 2:10 PM, reaching Gorakhpur at 6:30 AM the following morning. The total journey covers approximately 780 km in about 14 to 14.5 hours. This schedule is particularly convenient for families, offering an overnight journey that saves a day of travel. The train will make eight intermediate stops at key stations including Khalilabad, Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, Bareilly, and Moradabad, improving access for passengers across the region.

One of the most significant advantages of the Amrit Bharat Express is its focus on affordability. While fares for superfast trains with dynamic pricing can fluctuate, the Amrit Bharat is positioned to offer a consistent, budget-friendly option. It caters primarily to non-AC travellers, providing a much-needed comfortable alternative to crowded general compartments on other mail and express trains. Families who previously had to choose between expensive AC classes or less comfortable travel now have a middle ground. This new service is expected to be a high-demand option, especially during festive seasons and holidays when traffic on this route peaks.
