Understanding the Free Visa Offer
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot program covering the cost of a UAE entry visa for eligible Indian tourists. This initiative is designed to make Abu Dhabi a more accessible and attractive destination
for one of its most important tourism markets. The offer is valid for travel that takes place between August 1 and October 31, 2026. It's important to note that this is not a visa-free entry scheme for all Indians; it's a specific promotion where the visa cost, approximately AED 285, is waived for qualifying holiday packages. The program is limited to the first 20,000 eligible visas, so early planning is recommended.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
To qualify for the complimentary visa, travellers must meet a specific set of criteria. Firstly, you must be an Indian passport holder whose travel originates from India. This offer is not designed for independent travellers who book flights and hotels separately. Instead, it is exclusively linked to holiday packages. The key requirement is booking a package that includes a minimum stay of three consecutive nights in an Abu Dhabi hotel, along with a return flight from India. A booking for a hotel in Dubai, even with a side trip to Abu Dhabi, will not qualify for this specific offer.
The Correct Booking Process
The most crucial rule is that you cannot apply for this free visa independently. The booking must be made through a participating travel partner, which can be a traditional travel agency or an online travel agency (OTA). These partners are registered with DCT Abu Dhabi for this specific visa subsidy program. When you book a qualifying package, the travel partner handles the visa application process on your behalf. They will either process it through a DCT-appointed company where the fee is directly covered or get reimbursed for the cost, meaning the traveller does not have to pay the visa fee. Before booking, it is wise to confirm with your travel agency that they are part of this specific promotion.
Key Dates and Limitations
The travel window for this offer is strictly between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. This means your entire trip must fall within this period, not just the booking date. As this is a pilot program with a cap of 20,000 visas, availability is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Travellers interested in this offer should act promptly to plan and book their holidays to avoid disappointment. A flight-only or hotel-only booking will not qualify you for the complimentary visa.
Distinguishing from Other Visa Types
It's important not to confuse this promotional offer with other UAE visa options available to Indian citizens. For instance, the UAE offers separate transit visas for layovers, such as a free 48-hour transit visa often facilitated by airlines like Etihad for those with a layover of at least eight hours. There is also a 14-day visa-on-arrival option for Indian passport holders who have valid visas or residence permits from the US, UK, or EU, though this comes with a fee. The free visa offer running until October is a distinct tourism promotion tied to specific package holiday bookings from India.
