Indian Railways has approved a new daily express service connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai with Sawantwadi Road in the Sindhudurg district. This development is a major boost for connectivity along the picturesque Konkan
railway route, a line celebrated for its engineering marvels and stunning scenery. The train, numbered 15087 for the journey from Mumbai and 15088 for the return trip, will cover the 510-kilometre distance daily, replacing what for many was a reliance on less frequent services or lengthy road journeys. This move is designed to benefit a wide range of travellers, from tourists and students to business owners and daily commuters, by providing a reliable and direct link to the southern Konkan region.

With 22 stops including Panvel, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, and Kudal, the service acts as a direct artery to the Konkan's most sought-after coastal treasures. For years, reaching idyllic spots like Malvan, Tarkarli, and Vengurla required a multi-step journey, often involving a train followed by a long bus or taxi ride. The Kudal station, for instance, is the nearest railhead to Tarkarli and Malvan, famous for their white-sand beaches and clear waters ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. Similarly, Sawantwadi Road station serves as a convenient entry point to the beaches of Vengurla and the charming hill station of Amboli.
