This three-year postgraduate programme is the only one of its kind in India and has very few seats, with some reserved for civilians. The curriculum covers aviation physiology, space biology, and flight safety. For those with a background in physiology or biomedical engineering, opportunities are also emerging through research collaborations. ISRO has recently partnered with institutes like Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST) to launch postdoctoral fellowships in bioastronautics, creating a new pipeline for non-medical specialists to contribute.

The training for these roles is as intense as the job itself. Specialists at the IAM and ISRO's Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) work in a highly collaborative environment.
