The Vande Bharat Advantage
Before these sleek, blue-and-white trains entered the scene, many weekend destinations were just a bit too far for a comfortable two or three-day trip. Hours spent on congested highways or in slower trains would eat into precious vacation time. The Vande
Bharat changes this equation. With its faster speeds, airline-style seating, and modern amenities, it slashes travel time on key routes. This means less time in transit and more time exploring, relaxing, and making the most of your break. The large panoramic windows also turn the journey itself into a scenic experience, a feature that road travel, with its traffic snarls, often cannot match.
Delhi to the Hills: Dehradun and Beyond
For residents of the capital, the Himalayan foothills are a classic escape. The Delhi-Dehradun Vande Bharat Express makes this trip quicker than ever. The train covers the distance in approximately 4 hours and 45 minutes, a significant saving compared to the 6-plus hours a road trip can take, depending on traffic. Arriving in Dehradun by evening, you can either explore the city's pleasant vibe or take a short taxi ride up to the cooler climes of Mussoorie for the weekend. This route transforms a journey that was once a full-day commitment into a comfortable half-day trip, making a spontaneous mountain getaway a reality.
Mumbai to the Beach: A Swift Ride to Goa
The Mumbai-Goa route is iconic, but the highway can be notoriously slow. The Vande Bharat Express offers a fantastic alternative, connecting Mumbai to Madgaon in Goa. Outside of the monsoon season, the journey takes roughly seven to eight hours, a major improvement on the 12-hour-plus journeys on other trains or by road. You can board the train in the morning and be in Goa by the afternoon, ready to hit the beaches. The route, running along the Konkan coast, is incredibly scenic, offering breathtaking views of the Western Ghats, lush valleys, and waterfalls, especially during the monsoon months.
Chennai to Royalty: The Mysuru Connection
Connecting two of South India's major cultural hubs, the Chennai-Mysuru Vande Bharat is a boon for weekend travellers. The journey takes around 6.5 hours, making it easy to travel between the Tamil Nadu capital and the historic city of palaces. This route allows for a comfortable weekend exploring Mysuru's magnificent palace, vibrant markets, and serene Brindavan Gardens without the stress of a long road journey. It also serves as a gateway to the coffee plantations of Coorg, located a few hours' drive from Mysuru, opening up another popular destination for a long weekend.
Capital to Spirituality: Quick Trips to Holy Cities
The Vande Bharat network has also made spiritual tourism much more accessible for weekend planners. Routes from Delhi to sacred towns like Varanasi and Ayodhya have become significantly faster. The train to Varanasi, one of the earliest routes launched, completes the journey in about eight hours, allowing travellers to leave in the morning and be there by the afternoon. Similarly, the service to Ayodhya takes just over eight hours. These connections allow for a fulfilling weekend pilgrimage to experience the ghats of the Ganga or the grandeur of the Ram Mandir without needing to take extra days off work.
