The Soaring Numbers
The growth in Indian tourists heading to Vietnam isn't just a slow trickle; it's a significant wave. In the first four months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed over 324,000 Indian visitors, a staggering 59.1% increase compared to the same period in the previous
year. This continues a powerful trend seen throughout recent years. In 2025, the number of Indian tourists was expected to hit nearly 747,000, a four-fold increase from pre-pandemic figures in 2019. This surge has firmly placed India among the top 10 source markets for tourists to Vietnam, signalling a major shift in travel preferences.
The Game Changers: Easy Visas and Direct Flights
Two of the biggest catalysts behind this trend are accessibility and convenience. Vietnam's simplified e-visa system has been a game-changer for Indian tourists. The online process allows travellers to apply for a 90-day, multiple-entry visa for a fee of around $25-$50, removing the traditional hassle associated with international travel planning. Complementing this is a boom in direct flight connectivity. Airlines like VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines, Air India, and IndiGo now operate numerous direct flights from major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad to hubs like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. These flights, with a duration of just four to five hours, have made Vietnam more accessible than ever for short holidays and extended trips alike.
Affordable Luxury and Incredible Value
Perhaps the most compelling reason for Vietnam's popularity is the exceptional value it offers. For the value-conscious Indian traveller, Vietnam provides a 'premium-yet-affordable' experience. From accommodation and local transport to food and sightseeing, costs are significantly lower than in many European or even other popular Southeast Asian destinations. Travellers can enjoy five-star hotels, luxury cruises in Ha Long Bay, and fine dining experiences at a fraction of the price they might pay elsewhere. This affordability allows Indian families and couples to enjoy a sense of luxury within a budget, making an international trip feel both aspirational and achievable.
A Destination That Offers Everything
Vietnam's appeal isn't just financial; its diverse offerings cater to every type of traveller. The country boasts a stunning variety of landscapes, from the iconic limestone karsts of UNESCO World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay to the sun-drenched beaches of Da Nang and Phu Quoc. Culturally curious travellers can explore the ancient, lantern-lit streets of Hoi An or the bustling, historic capital of Hanoi. For food lovers, Vietnamese cuisine is a major draw, and the growing availability of Indian and vegetarian food in major tourist spots adds another layer of comfort. This blend of scenic beauty, cultural richness, and modern comforts makes it an all-in-one package.
A Strategic Welcome Mat
Vietnam's tourism authorities have not left this growth to chance. They have been actively promoting the country as a top-tier destination within the Indian market. Through targeted roadshows in cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, partnerships with Indian travel agencies, and a focus on developing products for the Indian market—including wedding tourism and Halal-friendly services—Vietnam has laid out a strategic welcome mat. This conscious effort to understand and cater to the preferences of Indian tourists has paid dividends, building a strong reputation and fostering positive word-of-mouth.
