While other trains like the Tejas Express and Jan Shatabdi Express also ply this route, the Mandovi Express offers a classic, unhurried experience, allowing you to witness the landscape transform as the day progresses. It runs daily, making it a flexible option for your travel plans.
The Million-Rupee Question: Which Side to Sit?
This is the single most important tip for a successful scenic journey. When travelling from Mumbai to Goa on the Mandovi Express (10103), always book a window seat on the right side of the train. The majority of the spectacular waterfalls, lush valleys, and expansive views of the Western Ghats are visible from the right. The train hugs the mountainside, offering unobstructed panoramas. On the return journey from Madgaon to Mumbai (10104), the logic flips, and a left-side seat will be your best bet. Booking in advance is highly recommended, as these coveted window seats are the first to go, especially during peak monsoon season.
Upgrade to a Vistadome Coach
For the ultimate viewing experience, consider booking a Vistadome coach if available on your chosen train. While the Mandovi Express itself doesn't have them, associated trains on the Konkan route like the Jan Shatabdi Express and Tejas Express often do. Bring a power bank to keep your devices charged, as you'll be taking plenty of photos and videos. A light jacket or shawl can be useful as the air-conditioning can get chilly.
