They also check for emulsion stability and any interaction between the formula and its packaging. This process reveals which formulas will separate, degrade, or become unsafe, allowing brands to create more resilient products from the start.

For a long time, international brands sold the same formulas worldwide, regardless of local climates. But the sheer size and growing sophistication of the Indian beauty market have forced a major shift. Brands now recognise that to succeed in India, they must formulate specifically for Indian consumers and conditions. This has led to a boom in 'climate-adaptive' or 'geo-specific' skincare and makeup. This trend benefits consumers directly, as they get access to products that are more effective, comfortable, and reliable. Many homegrown Indian brands have always had an edge, formulating with local conditions in mind from the beginning, often using traditional botanical ingredients like neem, aloe vera, and turmeric that are naturally suited to the climate.
How to Find Your Heat-Proof Heroes
As brands get smarter about formulation, you can get smarter about shopping. When looking for products that will last through an Indian summer, certain keywords and ingredients are your best friends. For makeup, look for terms like “long-wear,” “sweat-proof,” “humidity-resistant,” and “transfer-proof.” Opt for waterproof formulas for eye products like mascara and eyeliner to prevent smudging. When it comes to skincare and base makeup, choose lightweight textures. Gel-based moisturisers, water-based serums, and oil-free foundations are less likely to feel heavy or clog pores. Ingredients like niacinamide can help control oil production, while humectants like hyaluronic acid provide hydration without greasiness. Finally, remember that application matters. Applying thin layers, using a mattifying primer on oily zones, and setting your makeup with a powder or spray can lock everything in place for hours.
