The Power of Automation Tools
The key to automating your finances in India lies in two powerful tools: the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) AutoPay and the electronic National Automated Clearing House (e-NACH) mandate. An e-mandate is a digital instruction you give your bank to allow
periodic debits for a specific purpose. UPI AutoPay allows you to set up recurring payments directly through your UPI app for amounts typically up to ₹1,00,000 for investments and insurance. The e-NACH system, managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is a more traditional, bank-account-based mandate used for various recurring payments like loan EMIs and SIPs. Both methods replace manual transfers and older, paper-based processes, making your financial life seamless.
Automating Mutual Fund SIPs
A Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) thrives on consistency, which automation guarantees. When you start a new SIP on any major investment platform like Zerodha Coin, Groww, or Paytm Money, you will be prompted to set up an auto-debit mandate. You can typically choose between UPI AutoPay or an e-NACH mandate. For UPI AutoPay, you will be redirected to your UPI app (like PhonePe or Google Pay) to approve the recurring payment with your PIN. This is a one-time setup. For an e-NACH mandate, you’ll usually authenticate the request via your bank’s net banking portal using your login details or an OTP. Once approved, the SIP amount will be automatically debited from your account on the scheduled date each month, ensuring your investments stay on track without any manual effort.
Setting Up Recurring Gold SIPs
Much like mutual funds, you can automate investments in digital gold. A gold SIP allows you to buy a fixed amount of 24K digital gold at regular intervals, which is a great way to accumulate the asset without a large upfront investment. Platforms offering digital gold, such as PhonePe, Augmont, or MMTC-PAMP, provide an option to set up a monthly or weekly SIP. The process is straightforward: select the amount you want to invest periodically, choose the frequency, and link your payment method. Most platforms heavily leverage UPI AutoPay for this. You simply authorise a one-time mandate through your UPI app, and your account will be debited automatically for each instalment, making disciplined gold accumulation effortless.
Never Miss a Rent Payment Again
Automating rent is a simple way to maintain a good relationship with your landlord and avoid late fees. Many third-party apps like CRED, NoBroker, and PhonePe have dedicated features for rent payments. These platforms allow you to set up recurring monthly payments. The process involves entering your landlord's bank account details or UPI ID and then authorising the payment through your credit card, debit card, or bank account. Some platforms even let you set up automatic payments, ensuring the rent is transferred on the same date every month. Before setting this up, it's a good idea to confirm with your landlord that they are comfortable receiving payments this way. While convenient, be aware that many platforms charge a small processing fee for rent payments made via credit card.
