The primary trains offering this experience on the Konkan route are the Mumbai-Madgaon Tejas Express and the Jan Shatabdi Express. These trains connect Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) or Dadar with Madgaon in Goa. Given the upcoming Independence Day holiday, demand for these coaches has surged, with seats often selling out weeks in advance. The popularity is so high that Central Railway has previously added a second Vistadome coach to the Tejas Express to accommodate more passengers. Travellers planning to embark on this journey are strongly advised to book their tickets well ahead of time through the IRCTC website, where the Vistadome coach is listed under the Executive Chair Car (EC) or EV category.
Tips for the Perfect Journey
To make the most of your Vistadome trip, a little planning goes a long way. Booking in advance is non-negotiable, especially around public holidays. When booking, keep in mind that the Vistadome coach is typically at the very end of the train, which provides great views from the rear observation lounge. While the seats are rotatable, some travellers have noted that seat alignment can be inconsistent, with some seats lining up perfectly with the wide windows and others with a pillar. For the Mumbai to Goa direction, the views of the Western Ghats are particularly stunning. Food is available for purchase from the onboard pantry, but some frequent travellers suggest exploring food delivery options at major stations for more variety.
