Know the Rules Before You Go
Before you even start packing, remember that Amrit Udyan has strict entry rules. All visits must be booked online in advance, as there are no on-the-spot tickets available. Backpacks, cameras, video cameras, and outside food are not allowed inside. However,
you can carry mobile phones, wallets, purses, and umbrellas. Knowing these restrictions helps you pack only what is necessary and permissible, ensuring a smooth entry at Gate No. 35.
The Right Footwear is Crucial
You will be doing a lot of walking across the garden's 15 acres, and rainy conditions make pathways slippery. This is not the day for white sneakers, heels, or flimsy flip-flops. Opt for waterproof footwear with a good grip. Rubber sandals, floaters, or quick-dry sneakers are excellent choices. Your feet will stay comfortable, you'll have better stability on wet surfaces, and you won’t have to worry about ruining a good pair of shoes.
Choose Your Rain Shield: Umbrella vs. Raincoat
While umbrellas are allowed in Amrit Udyan, a lightweight, foldable raincoat or poncho can be a more practical choice. It keeps your hands free to use your mobile phone for photos and navigate the crowds. A raincoat also offers better protection from wind-driven rain, keeping you drier and warmer. If you do prefer an umbrella, choose a compact, sturdy one that fits easily into a small handbag, as large bags are not permitted.
Select a Permissible Bag
Since backpacks are prohibited, your bag choice is limited. Visitors are allowed to carry small purses or handbags. This makes it essential to be strategic. A small, water-resistant handbag or crossbody bag is ideal for protecting your essentials like your wallet, phone, and digital ticket. For parents visiting with infants, small handbags for carrying water and milk bottles are permitted.
Protect Your Gadgets from Water Damage
Your mobile phone is your camera and your ticket, so keeping it dry is a top priority. The easiest solution is to carry a few zip-lock bags. They are waterproof, transparent, and you can still use your phone's touchscreen through the plastic. A dedicated waterproof phone pouch is another great option. Don't forget a portable power bank, as cold and humid conditions can sometimes drain batteries faster.
Dress in Quick-Dry, Breathable Fabrics
Monsoon days in Delhi are humid, even when it's raining. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim and thick cotton that take a long time to dry and become heavy when wet. Instead, opt for lightweight and breathable materials like polyester blends, nylon, or linen. These fabrics dry quickly and will keep you from feeling damp and uncomfortable if you get caught in a shower. Darker colours are also a wise choice to avoid visible mud splashes.
Pack a Few Hygiene Essentials
A small, quick-dry microfiber towel can be incredibly useful for wiping your face, hands, or phone screen. Hand sanitizer is another must-have for staying fresh. With damp conditions come mosquitoes, so packing a small bottle of insect repellent is a smart move to avoid bites while you enjoy the lush greenery of the gardens. These small items can fit into a purse and make a big difference to your comfort.
