Andhra Pradesh is set to become India's first state to deploy a comprehensive AI-powered guide for tourists. The government has partnered with travel technology company Explurger to implement its NiVU AI (Neural Intelligence Vernacular Unified Model)
platform. This isn't a standalone app you need to download. Instead, visitors at temples, forts, beaches, and heritage sites can simply scan an "Ask AI" QR code with their smartphone. This free-to-use service instantly connects them to a conversational AI that can provide information about the site's history, culture, and significance. The platform works via both voice and text, making it highly accessible. A successful pilot project at the Mangalagiri temples has already shown promising results, with hundreds of devotees using the service daily.
Breaking Language Barriers
One of the most significant features of this initiative is its massive linguistic capability. The AI platform can interact with tourists in more than 130 Indian and international languages. This directly addresses a major hurdle in tourism, allowing visitors from across India and the globe to engage with the state's heritage in their native tongue. Instead of relying on signboards that are often in just two or three languages, a traveller can now have a detailed conversation about a temple's rituals or a monument's architecture in a language they are comfortable with. This move makes tourism more inclusive and enriching, removing the friction that language barriers often create and allowing for a deeper cultural connection.
The 100-Destination Rollout
The project is ambitious in scale, planned to cover more than 100 tourist and pilgrimage destinations over a three-year period. The implementation will be phased, starting with 30 major locations within the first year. The eventual goal is to have this AI guide available at all key attractions, including ancient temples, historical forts, scenic beaches, and other natural wonders like the Borra Caves and Araku Valley. This widespread deployment ensures that whether you are on a spiritual journey to Tirupati or exploring the canyons of Gandikota, a consistent and helpful digital companion is available. The AI can also suggest nearby attractions, helping tourists discover lesser-known gems and plan their itineraries more effectively.
