A Crowded Calendar on Dalal Street
September is shaping up to be one of the busiest months for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) in recent memory. According to market analysts, nearly 25 companies are in the pipeline, looking to collectively raise between ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 crore. This figure
could potentially surge towards ₹70,000 crore if mega-IPOs like those from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or Jio Platforms hit the market. The month begins with a flurry of mainboard and SME offerings, including issues from companies like Deepa Jewellers, Rays of Belief (operating as Mom's Belief), and Purple Style Labs. This rush follows an already active period, with July and August together seeing companies raise over ₹50,000 crore, signaling a significant revival in the primary market after a more cautious start to the year.
What Should Investors Watch For?
For investors, a packed IPO calendar presents both opportunities and challenges. The sheer number of issues demands careful evaluation to separate fundamentally strong companies from those simply trying to beat a deadline. With many companies hitting the market simultaneously, investors must look beyond subscription hype and scrutinize key financial metrics. Important factors to consider include a company's cash flow generation, debt levels, the intended use of IPO proceeds, and whether the valuation is reasonable. A crowded market can sometimes lead to aggressive pricing, making it crucial for investors to do their due diligence before committing capital. The increased supply of new paper could also test market liquidity, making stock selection more critical than ever.
