A New Digital Guide for Tourists
Andhra Pradesh is set to become India's first state to offer a comprehensive AI-powered guide for tourists, aiming to transform the visitor experience. The state government has partnered with travel-tech company Explurger to deploy a multilingual conversational
platform named NiVU AI. This initiative follows a successful pilot project at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temples in Mangalagiri, which received positive feedback from pilgrims and authorities. The AI guide will be rolled out at over 100 tourist destinations, including major temples, beaches, forts, and heritage sites, over the next three years. This move is part of the state's broader 'Swarna Andhra Vision-2047' to leverage technology for better governance and boost tourism.
Breaking Down Language Barriers
One of the most significant features of the new AI system is its ability to communicate in over 130 Indian and international languages. This is a game-changer for both domestic visitors from other states and international tourists who may not speak Telugu or English. Whether through voice or text, travelers can ask questions and receive information in their preferred language, making their visit more inclusive and enjoyable. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, who tested the platform in Telugu, praised its accuracy and ability to present cultural information respectfully. This multilingual capability ensures that language is no longer a barrier to understanding the rich history, culture, and religious significance of Andhra Pradesh's many attractions.
How It Works: Simple and Accessible
The beauty of the NiVU AI platform lies in its simplicity. Visitors do not need to download a special application or pay any fees to use the service. Instead, they can simply scan a QR code placed at a tourist site with their smartphone. Upon scanning the code, they can immediately start interacting with the AI guide. The platform can provide detailed information about the site's history, suggest nearby attractions, and answer specific queries. This user-friendly approach ensures that the technology is accessible to a wide range of visitors, regardless of their technical expertise. All that is required is a smartphone with an internet connection.
A Phased Rollout Across the State
The implementation of the AI guide will happen in stages. The first phase will see the platform launched at 30 flagship tourist sites within the first year. Over the following two years, it will be expanded to cover more than 100 locations across Andhra Pradesh. This strategic rollout allows the tourism authority to gather data and refine the system as it expands. Beyond helping tourists, the platform will generate real-time insights into visitor queries, language preferences, and travel patterns. The Tourism Department plans to use this data to improve destination planning, shape tourism policies, and enhance services across the state.
Enhancing the Entire Travel Experience
This AI initiative is about more than just providing information; it's about enriching the entire travel experience. The guide is designed to act as a personal travel assistant, helping visitors discover not just the main highlights but also lesser-known gems. By offering suggestions for nearby attractions, the AI encourages tourists to explore more widely, potentially extending their stay and spending more within the local economy. This aligns with the state's new tourism policy, which aims to develop thematic circuits and position Andhra Pradesh as a premier destination for all types of travelers. It represents a significant step in using technology to make travel more seamless, informative, and engaging for everyone visiting the state.
