The Unforgettable Scenic Route
The main attraction of this new service is the journey itself. The Vistadome coach is attached to the Madurai-Guruvayur Express (16327/16328), which travels through the stunningly beautiful Sengottai-Punalur ghat section. Passengers will be treated to panoramic
views of the Western Ghats, including the Aryankavu pass, lush green valleys, and mountain vistas connecting Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The train's timing is specifically designed to pass through these forested areas during the afternoon, maximizing the sightseeing potential for travellers.
Inside the Vistadome Experience
A Vistadome coach is all about the view. These special air-conditioned carriages feature oversized, extra-large glass windows and a see-through glass roof, providing an immersive viewing experience. The 44 seats are designed for comfort and sightseeing; they can rotate and recline, allowing you to always face the best scenery. For added convenience, the coaches are also equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, sliding doors, a mini-pantry area, and modern toilets, ensuring a comfortable journey from start to finish.
Trial Schedule and Timings
This is a temporary trial run to gauge passenger interest. From Madurai, the Vistadome coach (Train No. 16327) will operate four days a week: on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The service begins on October 22, 2026, and will run until January 15, 2027. The train departs from Madurai Junction at 11:35 a.m. and reaches the scenic Sengottai section by mid-afternoon. For the return journey from Guruvayur (Train No. 16328), the coach will be available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, starting from October 23, 2026, until January 16, 2027.
How to Book Your Ticket

Tickets can be booked through the official IRCTC website (irctc.co.in) or at railway station reservation counters. A Boost for Regional Tourism
The introduction of this Vistadome coach is a significant milestone for rail tourism in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala. By connecting two major pilgrimage centres, Madurai and Guruvayur, with a unique travel experience, Southern Railway hopes to attract not just devotees but also leisure travellers and nature lovers. The success of this trial, which will be determined by passenger numbers, could pave the way for making the service permanent or introducing similar coaches on other scenic routes in the region. It's a fantastic opportunity for tourists and families to experience the natural splendour of South India in a whole new way.
