India's festive season is here, bringing a surge in online shopping. This massive demand fuels a hiring boom in 'quick commerce', creating thousands of jobs in the network of warehouses and dark stores that power 10-minute deliveries.
The Engine Behind 10-Minute Deliveries
The festive season
is expected to create over 1.2 lakh temporary jobs in 2026, with quick commerce being the fastest-growing sector for hiring. This boom is driven by 'dark stores', small, neighbourhood-focused warehouses designed exclusively for fulfilling online orders at high speed. Unlike traditional retail stores, these are not open to the public. Their sole purpose is to enable platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart to deliver groceries, gifts, and other essentials in minutes. As festive e-commerce spending continues to rise, the demand for workers to pick, pack, and dispatch orders from these hubs has skyrocketed.
Blinkit Leads the Charge
As one of India's largest private-sector gig employers in 2026, Blinkit (a Zomato company) is at the forefront of festive hiring. The company operates thousands of dark stores across metros and is expanding into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Job postings show a continuous need for warehouse pickers, packers, loaders, and delivery executives. Roles are available across various shifts, including full-time, part-time evening slots, and late-night shifts, offering flexibility for students and those seeking supplemental income. With direct joining processes and minimal entry barriers, Blinkit has become a major source of accessible seasonal employment.
Swiggy Instamart's Nationwide Push
Swiggy's quick commerce arm, Instamart, is also scaling up its workforce significantly for the festive rush. Recent hiring announcements and job posts indicate a strong demand for both in-store and delivery roles across India. Openings for pickers, packers, loaders, and store executives have been advertised in cities like Jaipur, Ajmer, Chandigarh, and Bangalore. For delivery partners, Swiggy is promoting attractive festive earnings, with the potential to make a significant income through per-order fees, bonuses, and flexible hours. The company is also hiring fresh graduates for contractual roles in functions like warehouse operations, procurement, and customer experience.
Zepto's Focus on Scalability
While many companies focus on temporary festive staffing, Zepto has stated its approach is geared towards building a stable, permanent workforce to handle peak demand. However, the company continues to hire actively, particularly for operational roles. Recent job openings include positions for pickers and packers, facilities managers, and compliance managers in cities like Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. Their model relies on a vast network of micro-warehouses, which require a steady stream of staff to manage inventory, process orders, and ensure the 10-minute delivery promise is met, making them a key player in the quick commerce job market.
The New Generation of Festive Jobs
The roles being created extend beyond just picking and delivery. As the logistics network becomes more sophisticated, there is a growing need for specialised frontline workers. Companies are hiring for inventory and fulfilment coordinators, warehouse automation operators, and returns management executives. While delivery partners and dark store associates remain the largest categories, this shift indicates that seasonal hiring is evolving. The demand is also spreading geographically, with Tier-2 and Tier3 cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, and Indore seeing faster hiring growth than metros. This shows how digital commerce is reshaping seasonal employment patterns across the country.
