A Welcome Extension for Passengers
To ensure passenger convenience and clear the extra rush, Western Railway has announced the extension of a key weekly special train service connecting Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad. This decision provides much-needed capacity on a high-demand corridor,
especially benefiting those planning trips through the festive and holiday season later in the year. The extended services will run until the last week of November 2026, giving travellers a wider window to plan and book their journeys between these two major commercial hubs.
Key Train Schedule and Timings
The primary service that has been extended is the weekly special train between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad. Passengers should take note of the specific train numbers and their days of operation. Train No. 09087 will depart from Mumbai Central for Ahmedabad every Wednesday, with its services now running up to November 25, 2026. For the return journey, Train No. 09088 will depart from Ahmedabad for Mumbai Central every Thursday, with its trips extended until November 26, 2026. Passengers are advised to check the official Indian Railways enquiry portal for detailed information on halt timings and specific stoppages along the route before travel.
How to Book Your Tickets
Booking for these extended trips is already open, and given the popularity of the route, it is advisable to reserve seats well in advance. Tickets can be booked through two main channels. The first is the traditional method of visiting Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters at various railway stations. The second, and more convenient, option is to book online through the official Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website or its mobile app, IRCTC Rail Connect. These platforms provide real-time seat availability and allow for easy and secure digital payments. Remember that these services operate as Special Trains on Special Fare, so the ticket prices may differ from regular services.
Planning for a Smooth Journey
While booking your ticket is the first step, a few other points can ensure a hassle-free travel experience. Although specific documents are not required for booking online, every passenger must carry an original, government-issued photo identity card during the journey for verification purposes. It is always a good practice to check your train's live running status and platform number on the day of travel using apps like ixigo or the National Train Enquiry System (NTES). This helps you stay updated on any potential delays or platform changes.
