What Exactly Is the Package Visa?
The Saudi Package Visa is a new initiative designed to make trip planning much more convenient. Instead of booking flights, finding hotels, applying for a visa, and arranging insurance separately, this route allows travellers to get it all in a single,
integrated booking. The package includes your tourist e-visa, confirmed return flights, accommodation, and mandatory health insurance. This service is part of a pilot program launched in July 2026, with India being one of the first countries to gain access. The key idea is to remove administrative hurdles by working with pre-approved travel and tourism providers who handle the logistics, making it especially useful for first-time visitors to the Kingdom.
A New Path for Indian Travellers
This package route is a significant development for Indian passport holders. Previously, the easiest ways to get a Saudi tourist visa were either by holding a valid, used visa from the US, UK, or Schengen area, or by having GCC residency. This new route doesn't require a third-country visa at all. Eligibility is tied to the purchase of a qualifying travel package from an authorised agent. This opens up a straightforward pathway for a much broader group of Indian tourists who may not have existing international travel history in Western countries. It simplifies access, making the Kingdom's cultural and historical sites more accessible than ever.
How the Application Process Works
The process is fully digital and designed to be user-friendly. It begins with selecting a pre-designed or customised holiday package from a Ministry of Tourism-approved travel agency or platform. During the booking, you will upload necessary documents like your passport details and a recent photograph. After completing the payment online, your information is automatically verified. Once approved, the electronic tourist visa is issued and sent to your email along with your other travel documents. The entire process can be completed without visiting an embassy or consulate, with visas typically issued within 48 hours of completing the purchase.
Key Requirements and Conditions
While the process is simplified, there are specific conditions to meet. The package must include a confirmed return flight and accommodation in a hotel rated four stars or higher that is licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism. Bookings must be made at least 48 hours before the intended departure date. The trip can last from a minimum of two days up to 88 or 90 days. There is also a minimum package value, reported to be SAR 4,000 (approximately ₹89,000) for the first two days, with an additional amount for each extra day. The visa and health insurance fee is approximately SAR 402 (around ₹9,000).
Documents You Will Likely Need
To ensure a smooth application through a provider, you should have standard travel documents ready. This includes a passport with at least six months of validity beyond your entry date and at least two blank pages. You will also need a recent digital, passport-style photograph with a white background. Although the package includes flights and hotels, you will need to provide the booking agent with the correct personal information to make these arrangements. While bank statements and proof of employment are standard for some visa routes, the package visa's primary requirement is the purchase itself, which implicitly covers financial standing.
Important Considerations Before Booking
The main trade-off for convenience is a lack of flexibility. This route is not suitable for independent, budget, or last-minute travel, given the requirements for four-star hotels and a 48-hour advance booking window. It is crucial to use only authorised and licensed travel agencies to avoid scams and ensure your visa is processed correctly. Also, be mindful of seasonal restrictions; Saudi Arabia typically suspends the processing of most visitor visas in the months leading up to the annual Hajj pilgrimage, so it is wise to check official announcements if travelling around that period.
