Before the pandemic, Vietnam was a modest market for Indian tourism, with visitor numbers hovering around 100,000 per year. That has changed dramatically. In 2025, Vietnam welcomed approximately 750,000 Indian tourists, a staggering increase of nearly
50% from the previous year and more than four times the pre-pandemic figures. The trend has only accelerated, with the first quarter of 2026 seeing a 169% year-on-year increase in arrivals from India. This explosive growth has firmly placed India among the largest and most strategic tourism markets for Vietnam.

So, what's behind this surge? The answer is a powerful combination of value and convenience. One of the biggest drivers is Vietnam’s affordability. Compared to popular European destinations or even other Southeast Asian hotspots, Vietnam offers exceptional value for money. A week-long trip, including flights, accommodation, food, and activities, can be managed on a budget that would be unthinkable in many other countries. Budget travellers can get by on as little as ₹45,000 to ₹65,000 for a week-long trip. Stylish hotels can be found for ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 a night, and incredible street food meals often cost under ₹300.
Hassle-Free Travel with E-Visas
Another crucial factor is the simplified visa process. Since August 2023, Vietnam has offered a 90-day e-visa for citizens of all countries, including India, which can be for single or multiple entries. The entire application is online, costs around $25 USD, and is typically processed within three to five working days. This streamlined system removes a major hurdle often associated with international travel, making spontaneous trips and long-term stays much easier to plan.
Direct Flights Paving the Way
Just a few years ago, there were no direct flights between India and Vietnam. Today, a robust and expanding network of direct flights connects major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad with destinations like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. Airlines including VietJet Air, IndiGo, and Vietnam Airlines now offer regular services, reducing travel time to just four or five hours and making airfares highly competitive. This improved connectivity has been a game-changer, encouraging more Indians to consider Vietnam for both short getaways and longer holidays.
