Itβs a Limited-Time Holiday Package Deal
First and foremost, understand that this is not a general visa waiver for all Indian citizens. It is a limited-time tourism promotion launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism β Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi). The initiative is a pilot program valid
for travel between August 1 and October 31, 2026. The offer covers the cost of your UAE entry visa, but only when you book a qualifying holiday package. Simply booking a flight to Abu Dhabi will not make you eligible for the free visa. The program is also limited to the first 20,000 visas, so booking early is advisable.
Check Your Booking Eligibility
To qualify, you must be an Indian passport holder travelling from India. The core of the offer lies in the package itself: it must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights at a hotel in Abu Dhabi. It also requires a confirmed return flight to India as part of the same booking. Crucially, you cannot apply for this free visa independently. The entire package must be booked through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency (OTA). Before paying, explicitly ask your travel agent if your chosen package is eligible for the DCT Abu Dhabi complimentary visa program.
Understand the Application Process
Once you have booked a qualifying package, your travel partner will handle the visa application process. They will process the visa through a DCT-appointed Destination Management Company (DMC), and the tourism department will cover the fee directly. You will need to submit the necessary documents to your agent, which typically include a valid passport with at least six months of validity, passport-sized photographs, and your confirmed flight and hotel details. The travel partner will guide you on the exact requirements. Remember, you are still being issued a standard visa; the cost is simply being paid by Abu Dhabi's tourism authority.
Don't Confuse It with Other Visas
Itβs important to distinguish this promotional offer from other UAE visa types. This is not the same as a visa on arrival. A visa on arrival is an immigration facility available to Indian passport holders who also have a valid visa or residence permit from the USA, UK, or EU, among others. This holiday package offer has different criteria. Similarly, this is separate from the standard 48-hour free transit visa available to travellers of all nationalities who have a layover in the UAE. That transit visa is meant for short stopovers and is typically arranged through airlines like Etihad, whereas this offer requires a minimum three-night hotel stay as part of a package.
What 'Free' Actually Means
The offer covers the UAE entry visa fee, which is approximately AED 285. This means you will not have to pay this specific charge. However, all other costs associated with your trip β flights, hotel accommodation (beyond the package deal), tours, meals, and personal expenses β are your responsibility. The 'free' part is strictly the waiver of the visa processing fee for qualifying bookings. The initiative is designed to make the overall holiday package more affordable and encourage tourists to spend more time exploring Abu Dhabi specifically. Always confirm with your travel agent that the visa fee has been waived in your final invoice.
