What is the Free Visa Offer?
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a pilot programme that covers the full cost of a UAE entry visa for Indian tourists. This strategic initiative is designed to make the destination more accessible and appealing
to travellers from India, which is one of Abu Dhabi's most important international markets. Instead of a direct visa-free entry, this programme works as a subsidy where DCT Abu Dhabi pays for the visa fee, which is approximately Dh285 ($77), on behalf of the tourist. The offer is part of a larger push to encourage longer stays and showcase the emirate's diverse attractions. The pilot program is capped and will support up to 20,000 visas.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
The offer is specifically tailored for Indian nationals. To qualify for the complimentary visa, travellers must meet a clear set of criteria. Firstly, they must be Indian passport holders who are departing from India. The offer is not available for independent applicants or those booking flights and hotels separately. It is exclusively tied to package deals booked through participating travel partners and online travel agencies (OTAs). Finally, even Indian expats living abroad can have their family members from India avail this offer, provided the booking originates from India and meets all other conditions.
Understanding the Booking Requirements
To unlock the free visa, the booking itself must meet specific conditions. The core requirement is that the holiday package must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights at a hotel in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the package must include a return flight from India. Travellers cannot simply book a flight and claim the visa waiver; it must be part of a bundled package from a registered travel partner. This ensures that visitors are planning a substantive trip to explore the capital. The waiver is processed directly through the travel agencies, meaning tourists who book a qualifying package will simply not be charged the visa fee during the booking process.
Key Dates and Deadlines to Remember
This is a limited-time pilot programme with a firm deadline. The offer is valid for travel that takes place between August 1, 2026, and October 31, 2026. It is important to note that these dates refer to the actual travel period, not just the booking window. So, your entire trip must be completed by the end of October to be eligible. Since the program is limited to the first 20,000 visas, prospective travellers are advised to plan and book their trips early to avoid disappointment, as availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to Avail the Offer
Securing the free visa is a straightforward process integrated into the holiday booking itself. Travellers do not need to apply for the visa subsidy separately. The first step is to find a participating travel agent or an online travel agency that is part of the DCT Abu Dhabi initiative, such as Akbar Travels. From there, you must select or create a holiday package that meets the criteria: a minimum three-night hotel stay in Abu Dhabi plus return flights from India. Once the qualifying package is booked, the travel partner will handle the visa application process, and the cost will be automatically covered by DCT Abu Dhabi, resulting in a zero-cost visa for the traveller.
