What Is the Package Visa?
Launched in mid-2026, the Package Visa is not a new type of visa but a new way of obtaining one. It integrates the electronic tourist visa application directly into a travel booking. Instead of applying for a visa separately and then booking flights and hotels,
travellers can now purchase a complete bundle from an approved travel provider. This single transaction includes round-trip flights, accommodation, and the visa itself, with the visa being processed as part of the package purchase. The goal is to create a more seamless and connected travel experience, removing several steps that previously complicated holiday planning. The electronic visa is typically issued within 48 hours of completing the purchase of an approved travel package.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
This new initiative is currently in a pilot phase and is available to passport holders from a select group of countries. As of its launch, citizens of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, and Mexico are eligible for the Package Visa. This is particularly significant for travellers from countries like India, which are not on the list of 66 nations eligible for the standard tourist e-visa without holding a qualifying third-country visa. The Ministry of Tourism has indicated that more nationalities will be added to the program in the future as the Kingdom continues to expand its accessibility for international visitors.
How the Process Works
The process is designed for simplicity. Travellers start by selecting a pre-designed or customized travel package from an authorised travel agency. So far, providers like Almosafer and Reserval have been accredited by the Ministry of Tourism to offer these services. The package must meet minimum requirements, including a round-trip flight and accommodation at a licensed hotel rated four stars or above. Once a package is selected, the traveller uploads their passport details and a personal photo, then completes the payment digitally. The travel provider then handles the visa application. After a quick verification, the e-visa, travel insurance, and other documents are sent directly to the traveller's email, often within 24 to 48 hours.
Key Benefits and Requirements
The main benefit of the Package Visa is convenience. It bundles the three biggest travel planning components—flights, hotels, and visa—into one transaction. However, there are specific requirements. The travel package must have a minimum value, starting at SR 4,000 per adult for the first two days, with an additional SR 1,000 for each extra day. The visa issued is a single-entry tourist visa valid for three months, allowing a stay of up to 88 days. Importantly, while visa holders can travel anywhere in Saudi Arabia after arrival, some providers note that travel to Mecca and Medina is not permitted under this specific program. It's also crucial to know that the visa cannot be cancelled separately; if you cancel your travel package, the associated visa is automatically revoked.
How It Differs from Other Visas
The key difference between the Package Visa and other options like the standard tourist e-visa or visa-on-arrival lies in the booking method, not the visa itself. The underlying visa is the same electronic tourist visa, but its issuance is tied to a package. For Indian travellers, this provides a new pathway. Previously, options were largely limited to getting a visa-on-arrival (if holding a valid US, UK, or Schengen visa), or applying for a traditional sticker visa through an embassy. The Package Visa offers a streamlined digital alternative for those without a qualifying third-country visa, making the Kingdom more accessible for a straightforward holiday.
