Dubai is adding another glittering entry to its list of attractions. Its famed Gold District is preparing to unveil what is being called the world's first and longest 24-karat gold walkway, set to open before the end of 2026.
A Glimmering New Attraction
In a city known for its architectural
marvels and luxurious experiences, the new golden walkway promises a unique attraction. Officials from the Dubai Gold District have announced that the path, made of 24-karat gold, will be a first of its kind in the world. The project is scheduled to open to the public within the next two months, offering both residents and tourists a chance to literally walk a golden path. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai’s standing as a premier global destination for both tourism and the gold trade. The announcement was made on the sidelines of an event that saw Dubai celebrate two new Guinness World Records for the world's heaviest and largest handcrafted traditional gold earrings, known as 'jhumkas'.
The Vision for the Gold District
The golden walkway is a key feature of the newly established Dubai Gold District in Deira, which was launched in January 2026. This district is a major initiative designed to consolidate Dubai's massive gold industry, bringing together over 1,000 retailers that deal in gold, jewellery, bullion, and wholesale trading. The project is intended to create a comprehensive destination where commercial trade and visitor experiences merge. Beyond the walkway, there are also plans for a large-scale exhibition that aims to become the most significant trade event for gold and jewellery in the Middle East. These developments are taking place in Deira, the city’s historic trading hub located near the iconic Dubai Creek, allowing visitors to blend a modern luxury experience with the area's rich cultural heritage.
Rejuvenating a Historic Hub
This new attraction is part of the much larger Deira Enrichment Project, a major urban redevelopment plan by developer Ithra Dubai. The project aims to rejuvenate one of the city's oldest commercial areas by transforming underutilised land into a vibrant, mixed-use community with residential, retail, and hospitality spaces. While introducing modern facilities and infrastructure, the development is carefully designed to preserve the traditional character of the Gold Souk. The Gold Souk Extension, of which the walkway is a part, adds nearly 300 new retail shops, modern office spaces, and residential units. It also introduces much-needed modern amenities like shaded, climate-controlled walkways, better parking facilities, and a range of new restaurants, enhancing the experience for shoppers and traders alike.
Boosting Business and Tourism
The golden walkway is expected to be a significant driver for tourism and commerce. Even before its launch, the Dubai Gold District has seen substantial growth since the beginning of 2026, with a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new speciality stores for jewellery and luxury watches. Officials anticipate that the new developments, including the walkway, will attract even more companies to establish a presence in the district, projecting a further 10% to 20% growth in the coming year. For visitors, the walkway offers a compelling reason to explore Deira. A trip can be combined with traditional experiences like shopping for jewellery in the souk, taking a ride on a classic abra boat across the creek, or visiting the nearby Spice Souk, creating a well-rounded Dubai experience.
