The famous view of the towering “Sea of Milk” is exclusive to trains on the South Western Railway line, which connects Goa to Karnataka via the Braganza Ghats. Trains like the Amaravati Express or Goa Express offer this iconic view as they cross the viaduct directly in front of the falls. If Dudhsagar is your primary goal, you'll need to book a ticket on one of those specific services, which can be done as a separate day trip from stations like Madgaon or Kulem.
Best Seats and Booking Strategy
To maximise your viewing pleasure, choosing the right seat is key. When travelling from Mumbai to Goa (Train 10103), the left side of the train offers the best and most frequent views of the valleys and waterfalls. For the return journey from Madgaon to Mumbai (Train 10104), the right side is preferable. While air-conditioned coaches (1A, 2A, 3A) offer comfort, many purists swear by the Sleeper Class for an unfiltered experience, where you can open the windows to feel the spray and smell the rain-soaked earth. Tickets for the Mandovi Express are in high demand, especially during monsoon. It is essential to book your tickets on the IRCTC website or app well in advance—ideally, as soon as bookings open, which is typically 120 days prior to the journey.
