Central Railway has launched a new daily express train service connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai with Sawantwadi Road in the heart of the Konkan. This move addresses a long-standing demand from travellers for better, more

The service was officially flagged off in early September 2026, marking a significant step in bolstering the transport link between the bustling metropolis and the serene coastal belt. The new express train covers an approximate distance of 510 kilometres, providing a crucial link to several towns across the Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts. After departing from CSMT, the route includes major stops at Dadar, Thane, and Panvel before proceeding into the Konkan. Key destinations made more accessible include Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Kudal, and finally, Sawantwadi Road. These locations are gateways to some of the most beloved beaches, temples, and historic forts in the region, making them ideal for short, refreshing weekend escapes from the city's hustle.
Optimised for Weekend Travel
While the full, regular schedule is being finalised, the introduction of this daily service complements the numerous special trains often announced for festive seasons like Ganesh Chaturthi. In the past, travellers have relied on a mix of weekly specials and existing daily trains, some of which have inconvenient timings for a quick weekend trip. The goal of this new daily service is to provide a reliable, year-round option that travellers can depend on. The inaugural special, for instance, left CSMT in the afternoon, arriving in Sawantwadi in the early hours of the next day, a pattern that is common for overnight services popular with weekenders.
