Which Trains Have New Timings?
The schedule adjustment affects two specific Vande Bharat Express services originating from Varanasi. Northern Railway has confirmed that the changes are for the trains heading to Ranchi and Deoghar. Specifically, the affected services are Train No. 20888
(Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express) and Train No. 22500 (Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express). Both services will now depart 10 minutes earlier than their previous schedule. Passengers are advised that the timings for the corresponding return journeys to Varanasi, as well as the schedules at all subsequent stations on these routes, remain unchanged for now. The modification is only for the departure time from Varanasi.
The New Schedule Explained
To avoid any confusion or last-minute rush, passengers must take note of the new departure times. The Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20888), which previously departed at 4:05 PM, will now leave Varanasi Junction at 3:55 PM. This service runs six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. The second change is for the Varanasi-Deoghar Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22500). Its departure time has been moved from 6:20 AM to 6:10 AM. This service is crucial for pilgrims travelling to the temple town of Deoghar. The 10-minute advancement may seem minor, but it could be the difference between catching and missing the train.
Why Was the Change Made?
According to official reports from Indian Railways, the timetable revision has been implemented for "operational reasons." While a detailed explanation has not been provided, such adjustments are typically made to improve the overall punctuality of services, streamline traffic on busy routes, and enhance the passenger experience. One report noted that the updated timetable was prepared after reviewing passenger demand and operational requirements on the route. By adjusting the departure, the railway aims to ensure the trains maintain their schedule more effectively throughout their journey, benefiting commuters, business travellers, and tourists alike.
Routes and Key Stoppages
The Varanasi-Ranchi Vande Bharat Express covers a distance of approximately 536 kilometres in about 7 hours and 50 minutes. After departing from Varanasi, its major stops include Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Sasaram, Gaya, Koderma, Hazaribagh Road, Parasnath, Bokaro Steel City, and Muri before reaching Ranchi. This service, the 49th Vande Bharat in the country, was launched in March 2024 and has become a popular choice for travellers in the region. The Varanasi-Deoghar service also connects several important towns, providing a vital link for passengers in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
What Passengers Should Do
Indian Railways has strongly advised all passengers booked on these two services from September 2 onwards to verify the new timings and plan their arrival at Varanasi station accordingly. Arriving based on the old schedule could result in missing the train. It is recommended to reach the station at least 20-30 minutes before the new, earlier departure time to allow for security checks and locating your coach without hassle. For the most accurate and up-to-the-minute information, travellers should always refer to the official National Train Enquiry System (NTES) website or app before starting their journey.
