What is the Golden Path?
In a city of superlatives, the Golden Path is a fittingly lavish new project. It is a walkway made entirely of 24-carat gold, planned for the Dubai Gold District. Organisers have described it as the longest of its kind in the world, designed to offer
visitors the unique experience of strolling along a path of pure gold. The project was announced by Rashid Al Harmoudi, the Senior Director of the Commercial Sector at the Dubai Gold District, who confirmed it is expected to open to the public before the end of 2026. While exact details regarding its length and the quantity of gold used have not yet been released, the announcement has already generated significant buzz.
A New Attraction in the Gold District
The Golden Path is strategically located within the Dubai Gold District, a commercial area in Deira that serves as a major hub for gold trading, jewellery, and luxury watches. The walkway is part of a broader strategy to attract more tourists to the district and solidify Dubai's global standing as a centre for the gold trade. The area has already seen a significant increase in business activity, with a 20% rise in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% increase in new retail outlets since the start of 2026. The path is intended to be a centerpiece attraction, complementing plans for a large gold and jewellery exhibition aimed at becoming the biggest in the Middle East.
An Emblem of a Thriving Industry
The announcement of the Golden Path was made on the sidelines of an event where Dubai celebrated setting two new Guinness World Records for the world's largest and heaviest pair of gold earrings. The record-breaking 'jhumka' style earrings were handcrafted, highlighting the skill and scale of the city's jewellery industry. The new walkway serves a similar purpose: to act as a tangible symbol of the city's deep connection to the gold market. By creating a literal golden path, the district aims to create a memorable landmark that draws both shoppers and sightseers, further integrating the commercial aspects of the gold trade with the city's vibrant tourism sector.
Part of a Broader Vision for Dubai
While the Golden Path is a standalone attraction, it taps into Dubai's wider philosophy of developing unique, record-breaking projects that capture global attention. This new feature can also be seen in the context of the city's long term urban planning. The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan aims to enhance the city's appeal as the world's best place to live, with a focus on creating unique experiences and improving quality of life. While projects like the 93 km climate controlled 'The Loop' aim for sustainable mobility, the Golden Path focuses on luxury and spectacle. Together, these varied initiatives showcase a city constantly innovating to cater to every type of resident and tourist, from those seeking an active lifestyle to those looking for unparalleled luxury.
