The country is now home to more than 1,800 Global Capability Centres (GCCs), which are offshore centres established by MNCs to handle core business and technology functions. Initially focused on back-office support, these GCCs have evolved into powerhouses of innovation. Today, a significant portion of them are dedicated to high-end R&D, product engineering, and AI development for their parent companies. Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune are magnets for this activity, hosting R&D centres for global giants such as Microsoft, GSK, and Rolls-Royce. This trend offers immense opportunities for India's vast pool of scientific and engineering talent to work on cutting-edge global projects without leaving the country. These centres are no longer just implementing solutions developed elsewhere; they are co-creating and owning entire product portfolios.
