Forget swiping on dating apps. The world's happiest country has a better idea. Finland is inviting 16 single people from around the world on a free culinary trip in February 2027, but you have to act fast as the deadline is this week.
What is the Finnish Dinner Date?
The 'Finnish Dinner
Date' is a unique tourism campaign organised by Visit Finland, the country's national tourism board. The goal is to introduce international travellers to Finland's culture and its largely undiscovered food scene. The campaign will fly 16 selected singles on an all-expenses-paid, four-day trip to either Helsinki or Tampere. The experience includes a curated itinerary of sightseeing, cultural activities like saunas, and culinary experiences. The highlight is a relaxed, blind group dinner where the international guests will be joined by local Finnish singles to enjoy one of the country's official tasting menus. It is not a formal matchmaking service, but rather a unique group dining experience.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
The application is open to single adults aged 18 and over from anywhere in the world. The only major restriction is that applicants cannot be citizens or residents of Finland. Visit Finland has expressed interest in selecting a diverse group of participants from various countries, backgrounds, and age groups. All applicants must be comfortable communicating in English, as the application video and the trip itself will be conducted in English. Applications must be submitted individually.
The Two-Step Application Process
Applying for this opportunity involves two key steps that must be completed before the deadline. First, you must create and post a short video in English that answers the question: 'What would you serve on a dinner date, and why?'. This video should be posted to Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube with the hashtag #FinnishDinnerDate, and you must tag Visit Finland's official account. Your account on Instagram or TikTok must be public for the entry to be seen. For those who prefer more privacy, you can upload the video to YouTube as 'Unlisted' and share the direct link. The second step is to complete the official application form on the Finnish Dinner Date website, where you will paste the link to your video.
The All-Important Deadline
The deadline for applications is firm: Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 11:59 AM Finnish time (EET, UTC+2). For applicants in India, this corresponds to 3:29 PM local time. It is crucial to have both your video posted and your application form submitted before this time. Late entries will not be considered. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges based on creativity and authenticity. The 16 successful applicants will be contacted privately before a public announcement is made on Visit Finland's Instagram and TikTok channels on December 1, 2026. Selected winners must respond within 48 hours to confirm their spot, or their place may be offered to another applicant.
What the Trip Includes
The four days trip, scheduled to take place between February 9 and 19, 2027, is almost entirely paid for by Visit Finland. This includes round trip international flights, accommodation, meals, and all planned activities and dining experiences. Winners will be split into two groups of eight, with one group heading to the capital city of Helsinki and the other to Tampere, in Finland's beautiful Lakeland region. The destination is a 'blind match', meaning you won't know which city you're going to until your participation is confirmed. While the trip is comprehensive, winners are responsible for their own travel insurance and any visa costs, if required.
A Taste of Finnish Culture
This campaign is about more than just a free trip; it's a deep dive into Finnish culture. The idea was partly inspired by Finland's viral 'sinkkukori' or 'single basket' phenomenon, where pink shopping baskets in supermarkets allow singles to show they are open to meeting new people. The dinner itself will feature menus from top chefs like Adele Kinnunen of Café Savoy in Helsinki and Henry Tikkanen of Restaurant Gösta in Tampere. The dishes are designed to showcase Finland's national cuisine, which is built on fresh, seasonal ingredients like salmon, wild mushrooms, rye bread, and berries. It offers a chance to connect with people in the world's happiest country in a way that is quintessentially Finnish: through sincere hospitality and sharing a meal.
