connecting cities between 800 and 1,200 kilometres apart. The first services, including the inaugural route between Kamakhya and Howrah and a second on the high-demand Delhi-Patna corridor, mark a significant upgrade from the existing long-distance fleet. With a capacity of 823 passengers across 16 coaches, these trains aim to transform overnight journeys from a necessity into a comfortable and seamless experience.

The “comfortable” claim in the Vande Bharat Sleeper is backed by significant design upgrades. Berths are wider and better cushioned, engineered for better ergonomic support. Each coach is fully air-conditioned and features improved soundproofing and smoother suspension to minimise jerks and noise, ensuring a more restful sleep. For personal convenience, each berth comes with its own reading light and USB charging ports. The interiors also feature sensor-based automatic doors, advanced bio-vacuum toilets with odour control, and even hot shower facilities for First AC passengers, bringing a hotel-like level of amenity to the rails.

For young travellers and students, budget is everything. While Vande Bharat Sleeper fares are higher than conventional trains, they present a compelling value proposition. A 3AC ticket on the Howrah-Kamakhya route is priced around ₹2,299. When compared to last-minute flights, which can easily cost double, the savings are substantial.
