These non-AC coaches allow you to keep the windows open, offering unfiltered views and the authentic sounds and smells of the journey. While premium trains like the Tejas Express and Vande Bharat Express offer speed and comfort with large windows, classic express trains provide a more economical and sensory experience. To maximise daytime scenery, choose a train where the most scenic parts of the route, particularly Ratnagiri to Goa, fall during daylight hours.

Keep an eye out for the Panval Nadi viaduct near Ratnagiri, which was once Asia's third-highest viaduct and offers a dizzying, spectacular view as the train crosses the valley below. The Karbude Tunnel, at 6.5 kilometres, is the longest tunnel on the route, plunging the train into darkness for several minutes before revealing the lush landscape of the Bhoke region. Many travellers report seeing a beautiful waterfall on the left side (when travelling north towards Mumbai) just after exiting the tunnel following Karbude. The section around Ukshi station is also famous for its numerous small waterfalls and its unique location between two tunnels.
