Core Educational Qualifications
The foundational requirement for the Scientist/Engineer 'SC' post is a strong academic background in engineering. Candidates must possess a B.E., B.Tech, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. This degree must be completed with first-class
honours, as defined by the university. Typically, ISRO specifies a minimum aggregate of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84 on a 10-point scale. ISRO doesn't recruit for all engineering branches in every cycle. The recruitment is targeted based on the organisation's specific needs for upcoming projects and missions. However, there are three core disciplines that are consistently in demand: Electronics, Mechanical, and Computer Science. Notifications for these posts are the most frequent. Occasionally, vacancies for other specialisations such as Civil, Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and Architecture are also announced. Understanding the Age Limit
Age is a critical eligibility factor. For the Scientist/Engineer 'SC' position, the upper age limit for applicants from the general category is typically set at 28 years as of the closing date of the application. However, ISRO adheres to government reservation policies, providing significant age relaxations for various categories. For candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), the upper age limit is extended to 31 years. For those in the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories, the limit is further relaxed to 33 years. The Selection Process Explained
Getting selected as an ISRO Scientist/Engineer involves a rigorous two-stage process designed to identify the brightest minds. The first stage is a written examination. This test is objective-type and focuses on the technical syllabus of the specific engineering discipline the candidate has applied for, along with questions on aptitude. Candidates who score above a certain cut-off in this written test are then shortlisted for the second stage: the personal interview.
