Your Personal AI Tour Guide
Andhra Pradesh is rolling out an ambitious initiative to become India's first AI-powered tourism state. The government has partnered with travel technology company Explurger to deploy its 'NiVU AI' platform at over 100 tourist destinations. This isn't
just another app; it’s a conversational AI designed to act as a personal guide for every visitor. The plan will be implemented in phases over three years, starting with 30 major sites in the first year. The move follows a successful pilot project at the Mangalagiri temple complex, which received an encouraging response from devotees. The entire service will be free for tourists, aiming to modernise the visitor experience as part of the state's 'Swarna Andhra Vision-2047'.
Breaking the Language Barrier
One of the most significant features of the NiVU AI platform is its powerful multilingual capability. The AI can interact with tourists via voice or text in more than 130 Indian and international languages. This is a game-changer for both domestic travellers from different states and international visitors who may not speak Telugu or English. Instead of relying on static signboards or struggling with translation apps, visitors can get information in the language they are most comfortable with. Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, who tested the platform in Telugu, praised its accuracy and ability to present cultural information respectfully. This focus on linguistic inclusivity aims to make the state's attractions accessible to a much wider audience.
How Does It Work?
The system is designed for maximum convenience. Travellers will not need to download any specific mobile application to use the service. Instead, they can simply scan a QR code installed at participating tourist sites. Once the code is scanned, the AI assistant launches, allowing visitors to ask questions and receive information through a text or voice chat interface. This seamless access ensures that anyone with a smartphone can instantly connect with their digital guide, whether they are standing in front of a historic fort, a revered temple, or a scenic beach.
From Temples to Beaches
The rollout will cover a wide array of destinations, reflecting the rich diversity of Andhra Pradesh. The plan includes major temples, heritage monuments, beaches, forts, and caves. Over the next three years, more than 100 locations will be equipped with this technology. This means whether you are on a pilgrimage to Tirupati, exploring the Undavalli Caves, or relaxing on the shores of Visakhapatnam, the AI assistant will be available to provide context and information. The AI can offer details on a site's history, cultural significance, and architectural highlights, and even suggest nearby attractions based on a visitor's interests.
The Future of Travel in AP
This initiative does more than just enhance the tourist experience; it positions Andhra Pradesh as a forward-thinking, tech-savvy destination. For the state's tourism authority, the platform will provide valuable real-time analytics on visitor behaviour, including popular sites and language preferences, which can help in data-driven planning for the future. By integrating advanced AI, the state aims to create a more connected and personalized journey for every traveller. This blend of rich cultural heritage with cutting-edge Indian technology could set a new benchmark for how tourism is managed and experienced across the country.
