Understanding the Visa-Free Rules
As of September 2026, Indian passport holders can enter Thailand without a visa and stay for up to 30 days for tourism purposes. This visa exemption scheme means you no longer need to apply for a visa beforehand or queue for a visa on arrival. The previous
60-day visa-free stay was shortened, but 30 days is ample time for a fantastic holiday. Just ensure your passport has at least six months of validity, and be prepared to show proof of a return flight and sufficient funds for your stay if asked by immigration officials.
Making the ₹30,000 Budget Work
A sub-₹30,000 budget is tight but achievable with savvy planning. The key is to book flights well in advance, ideally 3-4 months prior, especially from cities like Kolkata or Chennai which often have cheaper fares to Thailand. Aim to secure a round-trip ticket for ₹12,000-₹15,000. This leaves you with approximately ₹15,000 (around 6,500 Thai Baht) for your 6-day trip, or about ₹2,500 per day. To stick to this, you'll need to stay in hostels, eat delicious and cheap street food, and use local transport. Accommodation in hostel dorms can be as low as ₹400-₹800 per night. Street food meals are incredibly affordable, often costing just ₹100-₹150 per meal.
Day 1-2: Krabi Arrival and Island Hopping
Fly into Krabi (KBV). From the airport, take a shared shuttle bus to Ao Nang, the main tourist hub. Check into a pre-booked hostel. For the rest of the day, you can relax on Ao Nang beach or take a long-tail boat to the breathtaking Railay Beach, known for its limestone cliffs. On your second day, embark on the popular '4 Islands Tour'. You can book this affordable group tour from dozens of vendors in Ao Nang for around 1,000 THB. It typically includes stops at Phra Nang Cave Beach, Tup Island, Chicken Island, and Poda Island, with lunch and snorkelling gear usually included.
Day 3-4: The Magic of Phi Phi Islands
From Krabi, take a morning ferry to the Phi Phi Islands. The journey itself offers stunning sea views. Check into your hostel on the main island of Phi Phi Don and spend the afternoon exploring the vibrant village, hiking to the famous viewpoint for panoramic photos, or relaxing on Loh Dalum Bay. On day four, hire a private long-tail boat with a few other travellers from your hostel to split the cost. This gives you the freedom to explore the surrounding islands at your own pace. A typical tour includes visiting Maya Bay (from a distance, depending on conservation rules), swimming in the emerald waters of Pileh Lagoon, and seeing the Viking Cave.
Day 5-6: Phuket's Charm and Departure
Take a ferry from Phi Phi to Phuket, Thailand's largest island. Check into a hostel in the Patong area if you want to experience the vibrant nightlife, or choose a quieter area like Kata or Karon. Spend your evening exploring the bustling streets, markets, and beachfront. On your final day, explore the charming, colourful streets of Phuket Old Town, known for its unique Sino-Portuguese architecture. Grab some last-minute souvenirs and enjoy a final Thai meal before heading to Phuket International Airport (HKT) for your flight home.
