Introducing the Bengaluru-Goa Vande Bharat Express
The Railway Board has officially approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service connecting Yesvantpur in Bengaluru to Madgaon in Goa. This modern, semi-high-speed train, numbered 26655/26656, is designed to provide a much-needed, faster
daytime travel option between the two popular destinations. The service will operate six days a week and will run as a chair car service, replacing the existing Madgaon-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express. While an official launch date is awaited, the service is anticipated to begin in the third week of November 2026.
Timings and Schedule Explained
The new service aims for convenience with its daytime schedule. Train No. 26655 is scheduled to depart from Yesvantpur at 7:35 AM and arrive at Madgaon at 8:55 PM, making the total journey time approximately 13 hours and 20 minutes. This service will run every day except for Wednesdays. In the return direction, Train No. 26656 will leave Madgaon at 8:20 AM and reach Yesvantpur at 9:15 PM, with a slightly shorter travel time of 12 hours and 55 minutes. The return service will operate six days a week, with no train on Thursdays.
A Scenic Journey Through the Ghats
Beyond its speed, a major highlight of this new route is the picturesque journey it offers. The train will travel via Mangaluru Junction, traversing the stunning landscapes of the Western Ghats. The stretch between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road is particularly known for its lush green hills, dense forests, and winding railway tracks, promising passengers a visually captivating experience. This makes the train journey not just a means of transport, but a part of the holiday itself.
Connecting Key Destinations
The new Vande Bharat Express will significantly boost connectivity for several towns across Karnataka. The train will have 12 intermediate stops, providing a direct link between Bengaluru and the state's coastal belt before proceeding to Goa. The planned halts include Shravanabelagola, Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subrahmanya Road, Kabaka Puttur, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, Kundapura, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Murdeshwar, Gokarna Road, and Karwar. This improved connectivity is expected to benefit tourists, business travellers, and students alike.
How It Compares to Other Trains
This new Vande Bharat service offers a notable time saving compared to other trains on the route. For instance, the existing Yesvantpur - Vasco da Gama Express (Train 17309) takes around 13 hours and 40 minutes to 15 hours and 30 minutes to cover a similar distance. By providing a journey time of around 13 hours, the Vande Bharat establishes itself as one of the fastest rail options connecting the two cities, offering a more efficient alternative to overnight bus journeys or the combined time and cost of air travel.
Booking and Future Details
With the discontinuation of the Madgaon - Mangaluru Vande Bharat service, IRCTC has already halted reservations for it from late November. Ticket fares and the exact inauguration date for the new Yesvantpur - Madgaon Vande Bharat are yet to be officially announced by the Ministry of Railways. Prospective passengers should keep an eye on the official IRCTC website and app for the latest updates on booking availability, fare structure, and the final launch schedule. Maintenance facilities for the new rakes will be set up at Yesvantpur and Madgaon.
