A New Daily Connection to Konkan
In a move celebrated by tourists and locals alike, Central Railway has introduced a new daily express train service connecting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) with Sawantwadi Road in the heart of the Konkan region. This service was
launched to meet a long-standing demand for better, more direct connectivity to South Konkan. The inaugural special, Train No. 01001, began its journey on September 3, 2026, marking a significant step in making the region’s attractions more accessible. This daily service is expected to ease the passenger load on other Konkan-bound trains and provide a reliable option for travellers throughout the year, especially during festive seasons like Ganeshotsav.
Route and Key Stops
The new express train covers a comprehensive route, ensuring connectivity to major towns and tourist hubs along the coast. Starting from CSMT, the train makes important stops at Dadar, Thane, and Panvel before proceeding into the Konkan belt. Key stations on the route include Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, and Kudal, before its final destination at Sawantwadi Road. This extensive list of stops makes it an ideal choice for travellers planning to visit various parts of the Konkan, from the commercial town of Chiplun to the historic port of Ratnagiri. The schedule for the regular daily service is expected to be announced by Central Railway, but the inaugural run has paved the way for consistent and convenient travel.

This new train service acts as a gateway to some of Konkan’s most cherished destinations. A stop at Ratnagiri opens up possibilities to explore its famous Alphonso mango orchards, serene beaches, and the historic Ratnadurg Fort. Further south, Kankavli station serves as the entry point to the historic Sindhudurg fort and the pristine beaches of Tarkarli, which are famous for their clear waters and water sports. The final stop, Sawantwadi, is known for its traditional wooden toys and its proximity to the hill station of Amboli and the beaches of Vengurla, which are near the Goa border.
