Warm-Up First
Before you begin any workout, it's crucial to prepare your body. Start with five to ten minutes of light cardio, such as a brisk walk or jogging around the park. Follow this with dynamic stretches like arm circles, leg swings, and torso twists. This increases
blood flow to your muscles and helps prevent injury, ensuring you get the most out of your session.
Incline Push-Ups for Upper Body
The push-up is a classic for a reason, targeting your chest, shoulders, and triceps. Using a bench makes it more accessible. Place your hands shoulder-width apart on the seat of the bench. Walk your feet back so your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels. Lower your chest towards the bench, keeping your elbows close to your body, then push back up to the starting position. For a greater challenge, place your hands on the ground and your feet on the bench for decline push-ups. Aim for 2-3 sets of 10-15 repetitions.
Tricep Dips for Arm Strength
Bench dips are one of the best exercises for targeting your triceps. Sit on the edge of the bench and place your hands next to your hips, with your fingers pointing forward. Slide your hips off the bench and walk your feet out. Lower your body by bending your elbows until they are at a 90-degree angle, keeping your back close to the bench. Push through your palms to raise your body back to the starting position. To make it easier, bend your knees; to make it harder, keep your legs straight. Complete 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps.
Bulgarian Split Squats for Legs and Glutes
This powerful unilateral exercise builds leg strength and improves balance. Stand a couple of feet in front of the bench, facing away from it. Place the top of one foot on the bench behind you. Keeping your torso upright and core engaged, lower your body until your front thigh is nearly parallel to the ground, ensuring your front knee doesn't go past your toes. Drive through your front foot to return to the start. This move works your quads, glutes, and hamstrings. Perform 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps on each leg.
Step-Ups for Cardio and Power
Step-ups are excellent for targeting the quads, hamstrings, and glutes, while also getting your heart rate up. Place your entire right foot onto the bench. Push through your right heel to step up, bringing your left foot to meet it. Step back down with your left foot first, then your right. For an added challenge, you can jump onto the bench, landing softly on both feet, and stepping down. Do 10-12 reps on each leg for 2-3 sets.
Bench Leg Raises for Core
A strong core is the foundation of all movement. Sit on the edge of the bench, lean back slightly, and hold the sides for support. Extend your legs out in front of you. Keeping them straight, slowly raise them as high as you can, then lower them back down without letting them touch the ground. This move specifically targets your lower abdominal muscles. Aim for 2-3 sets of 15-20 repetitions.
