In a city known for its architectural superlatives, Dubai is adding another unique attraction to its portfolio: a walkway made of 24-karat gold. The project, set within the bustling Dubai Gold District, is slated for a 2026 launch.
A Path Paved with Gold
Dubai has announced
plans for what it is calling the world's first and longest walkway made of 24-karat gold. The project is set to be a major new tourist draw, allowing visitors to literally walk along a golden path. According to Rashid Al Harmoudi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, the walkway is expected to open within the next two months, well before the end of 2026. While the ambition is clear, specific details about the walkway's exact length, the quantity of gold to be used, and its construction methods have not yet been publicly released. The project aims to create a distinctive experience that blends Dubai's affinity for luxury with its status as a global tourism hub.
The Heart of the Gold Trade
The choice of location is no coincidence. The Gold Walkway will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Gold District in Deira, a commercial hub launched in January 2026 to consolidate the city's sprawling gold industry. This district already houses over 1,000 retailers, bringing together gold and jewellery businesses, bullion traders, and wholesale investors into a single destination. The walkway is part of a broader strategy to transform the district from a simple commercial area into a comprehensive visitor experience, combining trade with tourism and luxury shopping. This initiative is designed to cement Dubai's long-standing reputation as a primary destination for gold shoppers from India and around the world.
A Symbol of Growing Ambition
The project serves as a powerful marketing tool and a symbol of the district's rapid growth. Since the start of 2026, the Dubai Gold District has seen a 20% increase in the number of wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new jewellery and luxury watch shops. The announcement of the walkway was strategically timed alongside another major achievement: Joyalukkas Jewellery setting two Guinness World Records for the world's heaviest and largest pair of gold earrings. The massive earrings, a traditional Indian 'jhumka' design weighing over 16 kilograms, are intended for permanent display in Dubai, further highlighting the city's connection to the gold trade.
Boosting a Thriving Hub
Officials believe the Gold Walkway will significantly boost the district's appeal and economic activity. The area is already undergoing expansion to add more office and retail space to meet rising demand from international companies. Projections show an expected 10% to 20% growth in the number of companies moving to the district in the coming year. The walkway is also expected to complement plans for a major gold and jewellery exhibition, with organisers aiming to create the largest event of its kind in the Middle East. By creating such a unique landmark, Dubai is not just building an attraction; it is making a calculated investment to reinforce its dominance in the global gold market and ensure a steady flow of both tourists and traders to the emirate.
