Check your wiper blades to ensure they clear the windshield effectively without streaking or skipping; heat can degrade the rubber over the summer. Test all your lights—headlights, taillights, brake lights, and indicators—as visibility is often poor during heavy rain. It’s also wise to have your brakes inspected, as wet conditions can increase stopping distances. A quick check of fluid levels, particularly windshield washer fluid, can also save you from a difficult situation.

Driving a pick-up truck in heavy rain requires extra caution. Because the rear of the truck is lighter than the front, it can be more prone to losing traction. Avoid sudden acceleration or braking, as this can cause the vehicle to skid.
