Launched in July 2026, the Package Visa is a pilot initiative designed to make visiting Saudi Arabia more seamless. Instead of booking flights, hotels, and applying for a visa separately, eligible travellers can purchase an integrated package from an approved
travel provider. At a minimum, these packages must include return flights, accommodation at a licensed hotel (rated four stars or higher), and the electronic tourist visa application. Many packages also allow you to add tours and activities. The key benefit is convenience; the visa is issued almost instantly upon purchasing the package, eliminating the need to visit an embassy. This service is initially available to visitors from specific countries, including India, Egypt, and Indonesia, with plans for wider expansion.
Analyse the Bundled Deal
When looking at a package, the first step is to understand what you're paying for. The total price includes flights, accommodation, and the visa, but often doesn't break down the individual costs. Note the specifics: which airline are you flying, what are the flight times, and what kind of room is included at the hotel? Check if meals like breakfast are part of the deal. Some packages might also include airport transfers, guided tours, or entry tickets to attractions. Scrutinise the itinerary to see how much is structured for you versus how much free time you have. While convenient, packages can be restrictive, and making changes is often difficult. Be aware of minimum costs; some packages require a minimum spend of around SAR 4,000 for the first two days.
Calculate the Separate Costs
To make a fair comparison, you must build a comparable trip piece by piece. Start with the biggest expenses. Research round-trip flights to your chosen city, like Riyadh or Jeddah, for your desired dates. Next, find prices for similar 4-star hotels for the same duration. Then, add the cost of a standard Saudi e-Visa, which is approximately SAR 535 (about $142 USD), and includes mandatory health insurance. Finally, estimate your daily expenses. A mid-range traveller might spend SAR 800-1,500 ($213-$400 USD) per day on food, local transport, and activities. Don't forget to add costs for any specific tours or entry fees you plan to include, such as a trip to AlUla's Hegra site or the Sky Bridge in Riyadh.
Factor in Flexibility and Value
The choice isn't purely about the final number. Booking separately offers maximum flexibility and customisation. You can choose budget-friendly hotels, fly with your preferred airline to use loyalty points, and create a personalised itinerary. This is ideal for independent travellers who want more control. On the other hand, packages offer simplicity and peace of mind. The convenience of a single transaction and the assurance that all major components are handled can be invaluable, especially for first-time visitors or those on a tight schedule. A bundled package can sometimes offer savings, as tour operators may get bulk discounts on flights and hotels. However, you might also pay a premium for the convenience.
Making Your Decision
Lay out the two final costs side-by-side: the all-inclusive package price versus the sum of your separately booked flights, hotel, visa, and estimated daily spending. If the package deal is significantly cheaper or only slightly more expensive, the convenience it offers might make it the better choice. If booking separately saves you a substantial amount of money and you're comfortable managing the logistics, that's likely your best bet. Also consider your travel style.
