Location and Spacing Matter
Choose your drying spot wisely. Avoid drying clothes in bedrooms or main living areas where you spend a lot of time. A laundry room, a spare room, or a well-ventilated bathroom are better choices. Whichever room you choose, don't overcrowd the drying rack. Hanging too many items close together traps moisture and drastically slows down drying time. Ensure there is enough space between garments for air to circulate freely. Shaking out each item before hanging and using hangers for shirts and trousers can also speed up the process and reduce creasing.

Position the fan so that it blows across the clothes on the rack. You don't need a powerful blast; a gentle, consistent breeze is enough to make a significant difference.
For a Serious Upgrade: The Dehumidifier
If you frequently dry clothes indoors, especially in a very humid climate, a dehumidifier is a game-changing investment. Unlike a fan that just moves air around, a dehumidifier actively pulls moisture out of the air, collecting it as water in a tank. This dramatically lowers the room's humidity, allowing clothes to dry much faster and preventing condensation and mould growth. Many modern dehumidifiers even have a 'laundry mode' designed for this purpose. While there is an upfront cost, they are far more energy-efficient and cheaper to run than a tumble dryer.
Quick Tips for Faster, Fresher Laundry
A few small adjustments to your laundry routine can make a big difference. Before hanging, run an extra spin cycle in your washing machine to remove as much excess water as possible. When you hang your clothes, place smaller items on the lower rungs of your drying rack and larger, heavier items on top. This allows for better overall airflow. Finally, try to hang your clothes to dry as soon as the wash cycle finishes. Leaving wet laundry sitting in the machine can kickstart the growth of odour-causing bacteria.
