Thailand: The Land of Smiles Beckons
Thailand has long been a favourite for its vibrant street life, serene temples, and idyllic beaches. In a recent move in July 2026, the Thai government confirmed it would continue to offer visa-free entry to Indian tourists. After some confusion earlier
in the year regarding a potential policy change, authorities have settled on providing a 30-day visa-exempted stay for Indian passport holders. This decision replaces the previous 60-day exemption but solidifies Thailand's status as a top, hassle-free destination for short trips. The move was made to align with the typical travel patterns of Indian visitors, who are one of the largest groups of tourists to the country. Whether you're planning to island-hop in Krabi, shop in Bangkok, or explore the cultural heart of Chiang Mai, entry is now more straightforward.
Malaysia: A Fusion of Modernity and Nature
From the soaring Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur to the ancient rainforests of Borneo, Malaysia offers a diverse travel experience. The Malaysian government has extended its visa-free facility for Indian nationals all the way through December 31, 2026. This policy allows for a stay of up to 30 days for tourism purposes, giving you ample time to explore its rich cultural tapestry and world-class cuisine. One important step for travellers is to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within three days prior to arrival. This free digital form is mandatory for all visitors, including those entering visa-free, and ensures a smooth process at immigration. With this policy in place, a trip to see orangutans or relax on the beaches of Langkawi is just a flight away.
Sri Lanka: The Resplendent Isle Next Door
Our beautiful southern neighbour, Sri Lanka, has made visiting even more appealing. As of May 2026, the island nation has launched a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) scheme for citizens of 40 countries, including India. This initiative waives the visa processing fee, allowing Indian tourists to obtain a 30-day travel permit at no cost. A unique advantage of this scheme is that it permits a double entry, meaning you can enter the country twice within the 30-day validity period. While the ETA is free, it is still a mandatory requirement that must be completed online through the official government portal before you travel. This makes exploring its rolling tea plantations, ancient ruins, and stunning coastline simpler and more affordable than ever.
Kenya: Gateway to the Great African Safari
For those dreaming of witnessing the great wildebeest migration or seeing majestic lions in their natural habitat, Kenya has simplified its entry process. Starting in early 2024, the country abolished traditional visa requirements for all foreign visitors. In its place, it has implemented a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system. Indian travellers must apply for this eTA online before their journey. While this means Kenya is technically visa-free, the eTA is a required travel permit that comes with a processing fee of about USD $32.50. The authorisation is valid for a single entry and allows for a stay of up to 90 days, making it perfect for an extended safari adventure across the Maasai Mara and beyond.
