A Monsoon Spectacle: Dates and Timings
For a limited time, from August 16 to September 15, 2026, visitors can explore the 15-acre gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan. This special opening, officially called the Udyan Utsav-II or Summer Annuals Edition, showcases a variety of seasonal flowers that
thrive in the monsoon climate. The gardens are open from 10 am to 6 pm, with the last entry permitted at 5 pm. It's important to note that the gardens remain closed every Monday for essential maintenance. To celebrate specific professions, there will be special access for sportspersons on August 29 (National Sports Day) and for teachers on September 5 (Teachers' Day).
Booking Your Free Visit Online
Entry to Amrit Udyan is completely free of charge, but planning is essential. All visitors must book their entry slots online in advance through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. On-the-spot bookings are not available, so turning up without a pre-booked ticket will lead to disappointment. You can book for up to six people in a single transaction. Bookings for any given day close at 10 am on the preceding day, so it is wise to secure your spot early, especially for weekends. When you visit, you will need to show your digital ticket on your mobile phone along with a valid photo ID.
What’s in Bloom This Season?
The monsoon showcase focuses heavily on indigenous and native flowering plants. Visitors can expect to see vibrant displays of Balsam (Gul-mehndi), Aparajita, Gomphrena, and Celosia, among many others. These species are specifically chosen for their ability to flourish during the rains, creating a different but equally stunning visual experience compared to the famous winter tulip displays. The lush greenery, combined with colourful flowerbeds of cosmos, sunflowers, and periwinkles, offers a refreshing escape in the heart of the city. The gardens also feature attractions like the Bal Vatika, a children's garden with a 225-year-old Sheesham tree, and a Bonsai Garden.
Essential Tips for a Rainy Day
A monsoon visit requires a bit of extra preparation. While rain shelters are available along the designated route, it's best to come prepared. Carrying an umbrella or wearing a raincoat is highly recommended. Comfortable, water-resistant footwear with good grip is a must, as the pathways can become slippery when wet. To protect your electronics, consider carrying a small waterproof bag for your mobile phone. While large bags and backpacks are not permitted, visitors are allowed to carry wallets, purses, and umbrellas. Drinking water and first-aid facilities are also available for convenience.
Getting There and Facilities
Reaching Amrit Udyan is straightforward. The most convenient way is to take the Delhi Metro to the Central Secretariat station. From there, a complimentary shuttle bus service runs every 30 minutes, from 9:30 am to 6 pm, taking visitors directly to the entry point. All visitors must enter and exit through Gate No. 35, located near North Avenue Road. If you choose to drive, parking is generally available on the roads nearby, but it is advisable to use public transport to avoid any hassle. Basic amenities like restrooms and drinking water are provided along the visitor path.
