to enhancing connectivity. At present, travelers rely on other daily trains like the Tutari Express (11003), which departs from Dadar at 12:05 AM and reaches Sawantwadi Road at 12:50 PM the same day. The new CSMT service is expected to offer a convenient alternative, catering to thousands of passengers travelling for work, education, and leisure.
The Return Journey: Sawantwadi to Mumbai
For the return leg, the service will run as Train No. 15088 from Sawantwadi Road to CSMT. This daily train will be a welcome addition for residents of the Konkan region who frequently travel to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Currently, the corresponding Tutari Express (11004) leaves Sawantwadi Road at 5:55 PM and arrives at Dadar in Mumbai at 6:40 AM the next morning, completing the journey in approximately 12 hours and 45 minutes. The new express is anticipated to provide similar, if not improved, travel times, easing the passenger load on existing services.
Journey Time and Route Details
The approved express train will cover a distance of approximately 510 kilometres along the picturesque Konkan coast. The total journey time is expected to be comparable to existing express services, which typically range from around 9 to 13 hours, depending on the number of stops. For instance, the Tutari Express takes about 12 hours and 45 minutes for the full route. In contrast, the Jan Shatabdi Express is one of the faster options, covering the distance in under 10 hours. This new daily train aims to strike a balance between speed and accessibility, serving numerous towns along the way.
Key Stops Along the Konkan Coast
The new Mumbai-Sawantwadi Express will feature 22 commercial stoppages, ensuring extensive connectivity across the region. Key stations on the route include Dadar, Thane, and Panvel in the MMR. As it travels down the coast, the train will halt at important towns such as Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, and Kudal before terminating at Sawantwadi Road.
